In late November, 1950, Corporal Witt was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 31st Regimental Combat Team of the 7th Infantry Division, historically known as Task Force Faith. He was reported missing in action during heavy fighting east of the Chosin Reservoir on December 2, 1950. Then in 1953, during the prisoner of war exchanges, repatriated U.S. soldiers told debriefers that Witt had been captured during the 1950 battle and had subsequently died of malnutrition on January 31, 1951. May you now rest in peace, Corporal Witt.
