Alan is a native of Lorain, Ohio, a graduate of Georgia Military Academy, Ohio State University, and the Artillery Officer Candidate School at Fort Bliss, Texas. During the Korean War, he served as an artillery forward observer on an outpost called “Westwood” facing a hill nicknamed “Old Baldy”.

In 1958, Alan relocated to San Jose, California where he began a career as an investment broker, and eventually joined Silicon Valley Capital Management in Palo Alto. After retirement, he and his wife Lynn moved to Portland in order to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. Alan and Lynn recently participated in one of the popular “Revisit Korea” Tours organized by Military Historical Tours, Inc. in cooperation with the Korean War Veterans Association.
