Tai Shan is a Seattle-based musician and music teacher. For Memorial Day and beyond, she and her father have created a music video to commemorate all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in our nation’s wars. Starting with her original song “Stone Cold Statues,” she and her father then juxtaposed images of our military memorials and cemeteries, as well as archival footage from several of our armed conflicts, as a way to honor all who fought for our freedom.

In Ms. Shan’s own words: “As a young girl I would sit on my grandfather’s lap and listen to stories from the three years he spent in a P.O.W camp in the Philippines. He was given one bowl of rice a day the size of a plum, and he could recite the names of his fellow captives that he memorized so many years before. This song was written in his honor. As the sister of a Iraq war veteran, I appreciate all that we can do to support our troops and those who love them.”
